MANTRA - SPEAKING VOLUMES

In Stores September 9th 2011
through Obese Records
Mantra is fast becoming one
of Australia’s most eminent hip hop
artists. After setting a new bench mark with
first solo effort Power Of The Spoken, the
Melbourne emcee is back with an explosive
new release entitled Speaking Volumes. Combining
both musical proficiency and articulate character,
Mantra has delivered a seamless, holistic
album. Speaking Volumes exhibits the intricate
philosophizing idiosyncrasy of Mantra’s
rhymes. His vehement lyricism with its tapestry
of subject matters is vividly transposed by
its musical accompaniment for the album’s
entirety. Publicly, yet astutely labeled ‘your
favourite rapper’s favourite rapper’,
it was no surprise that an inundation of accomplished
names stepped forward to contribute. Speaking
Volumes features an impressive array of guest
artists such as Promoe (Looptroop Rockers,
Sweden), Drapht, Urthboy, Illy and many more.
Production-wise, the album boasts a stylistically
diverse selection of sounds; each producer
bringing his own realm of sonic brilliance
to the fore. Speaking Volumes credits beats
from the likes of M-Phazes, El Gusto and Mista
Savona among others. First single release
(as heard on JJJ)‘Got Me Wrong (ft.
Parvyn Kaur Singh)’ offers a brazen
glimpse behind the misconceptions and snap-
judgements public figures are often prescribed
by the public. Boasting production by the
masterful Mista Savona and the enchanting
flourishes of Hindi-style vocalist Parvyn
Kaur Singh, ‘Got Me Wrong’ is
characterized by its exotic melodies and bass-heavy,
driving beats.

PHAZE ONE - PHAZE ONE

2011 heralds the release of
a trailblazing new collaboration between Australia’s
production extraordinaire M-Phazes and dexterous
US word-slinger Emilio Rojas. This pioneering
new duo goes under the name of Phaze One.
With an indisputably fortuitous future ahead
of them, Rojas and Phazes have forged their
self-titled release over two years of toing
and flowing across the Pacific. Paying homage
to the likes of DangerDoom, Jaylib and the
masterful relationship of the Foreign Exchange.
Phaze One has found synergism fusing vintage
influence with modern concepts. M-Phazes landed
his first international album placement in
2005, producing the standouts of US artist
Supastition’s sophomore release ‘Chain
Letters’. It was while enjoying the
success of this album that M-Phazes met the
interminable Rochester native Emilio Rojas.
With a definitive signature style that has
seen him share albums alongside Pharoahe Monch,
Talib Kweli, M.O.P, Grammy Award Winner Amerie
and a plethora of acclaimed musical pioneers,
M-Phazes has quite the enviable track record
already. In 2010 the M-Phazes debut album
Good Gracious powered through the Australian
charts and earned the Melbourne beat maker
an Aria Award (Best Urban Release), an AIR
award nomination for urban album of the year,
and a final spot for the illustrious Triple
J Album of the Year J-Award. Emilio has been
described by DJ Green Lantern as one of America’s
most anticipated up and coming artists, he’s
released a string of successful mixtape’s
that have drawn the considerable talents of
Grammy winners and platinum musicians. His
diligent work ethic has seen him collaborate
with Shady Records signee Yelawolf, chart
climbing sensation B.o.B, as well as Styles
P, Nottz, Killer Mike and a whole stable of
influential musicians.
